Tracie Hittman graduated with high honors from Hawthorn University’s Masters of Science in Holistic Nutrition program. Hawthorn is a licensed university in Whitethorn, California specializing in holistic nutrition careers. Her 300-page master’s thesis focused on the causalities for weight-loss resistance and included studies from traditional as well as holistic scientists.
Her focus is on educating clients on dietary and lifestyle practices that will heal the body and instill lifelong health. She follows the studies and recommendations of Ray Peat, Ph.D., and the Weston A. Price Foundation. Most recently, she has been partnering with a Californian nutrition expert in the field for 35 years to develop a program that specializes in weight loss, hormonal health (especially thyroid), athletic performance and overall health, including feeling more energetic.
Her passion for nutrition came about after she became very ill in 2001. A high school track athlete, she had won a scholarship to run track at Minnesota State University. She started feeling pain in her back during her freshman year and by the end of her sophomore year, the pain had become so severe she could no longer run to win. Doctors prescribed surgery to remove two cysts and medications that had horrible side effects, including symptoms of early menopause—hot flashes 20 times a day, menstrual disruption, libido loss, lethargy and other health issues. She was taken off one drug, and was put on birth control instead.
In the meantime, Tracie was well on her way to gaining 25 pounds. In an effort to feel better, she went on a vegan diet. She also began researching her health issues—reading studies by traditional and non-traditional experts—and discovered that her diet and lifestyle choices were making her sicker. They included: her vegan diet, over-exercising and the birth control pill. “I knew that I wanted to live the rest of my life feeling good. I wanted my health and body back.”
Although by this time she had graduated from college and was a working interior designer, she was fascinated with her discoveries and began looking for opportunities to study holistic nutrition.
Eight years after her initial illness and after lengthy research, working with a variety of experts and more discoveries about her own health—traditional medical tests indicate she is hypothyroid, probably contributing to all of her past illnesses—she has reached a state of health and weight that are optimal. “I am a firm believer that everything happens to us for a reason and some our greatest challenges are blessings in disguise. If I had not had endometriosis I would not be where I am today, helping people change their lives and health with food.”
Today, Tracie is passionate about helping people heal their metabolism and hormone imbalances and helping them to feel and look their best. She has had numerous successes and continues to work with clients who have tried traditional methods and failed while finding success with her nutrition plan that creates balance and good health.
